Dear All

We are using DB9 Devicemaster RTS. It was working fine for some time but then I re-cycled its power and after that its COM port seems to be not working.

I have pinged it on the configured IP and it was a success.

But when i go in the advanced tab, it gives a message "Unitialized". As a result im not getting the COM port data from it.

I checked with Portvision, it shows that the COM port is closed. What could be the problem with it. I checked but no other application seems to be using the same COM port.

Regards

Hi Shaiq,

A lot of times this occurs when a Driver has been updated.
If using the same older firmware on the DeviceMaster, it will clear the NS-Link program running on the DeviceMaster when a reboot occurs.
This is because the older firmware required a component from the older driver that is no longer available. The DeviceMaster will hang waiting for this component.
The newer firmware has this component (NS-Link) built in.

To resolve, if this is in fact the issue, update the firmware to the latest:
http://downloads.comtrol.com/html/DM_PRO_RTS_SERIALHUB_firmw are.htm

You should still be able to do this via PortVision.
If not, let me know.

Kurt

Dear Kurt

Thanks a lot.

It resolved my issue.

I actually have two comtrols connected to one switch and the third port of that switch is connected with my configuration PC. I noticed that the firmware upgrade was successful on one comtrol but on the other one, it is getting failed. The port vision shows it online, when I upgrade socket server, it goes for upgrade but it fails the upgrade and the device becomes offline.

Furthermore, do I need to do the bootloader upgrade also? Will it be from the same menu option?

Regards

Hi Shaiq,

There's a few reasons why a firmware upload will fail.

1. Ensure you don't have duplicate IP Addresses for the DeviceMaster
2. Try directly connecting to the DeviceMaster to upload firmware if possible.
3. Bootloader timeout.

See the following firmware uploading troubleshooting guide for details.
http://downloads.comtrol.com/contribs/devicemaster/help_file s/Basic%20firmware_upload_troubleshooting.pdf

Also, it's always a good practice to upgrade Bootloader as well as SocketServer rather than just one.
