Hi. I have a DeviceMaster UP 2 Port 1E and my company issued laptop is unable to connect to the device, it says "cannot detect...", but when I use my personal laptop everything works fine, I am able to connect to the device. I tried the 2 documents you posted, the Windows Firewall and Symantec EndPoint Protection procedures, but still my company issued laptop still is unable to detect the DeviceMaster. Is there any way to determine what is preventing this to happen? Can you please advise what are the things I can check, as well as the necessary modification/settings needed?
Thank you.

Hi,

Ensure your laptop is in the same network range as the DeviceMaster.

For instance, if the DeviceMaster has an IP Address of 192.168.250.250 with a subnet of 255.255.0.0,
then your laptop should be something like 192.168.250.10 using a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0

The first thing is to see if you can ping the DeviceMaster on the network.
Open a command prompt window and type 'ping <ip_address_of_Device_Master>.
It would look like ping 192.168.250.250 for example.

A lot of times company laptops use DHCP, alot of the time the company assigned IP Addresses are
outside the range of what the DeviceMaster is configured for.

Let me know what you find out.

Kurt

Hi,
I made the IP address to be of the same pattern with the default IP address of the DeviceMaster, I am able to ping the device once it is connected to the LAN port, but from the Advanced tab of the Comtrol Driver Management Console software my company laptop is still unable to detect the Comtrol device. It says "Cannot detect any Comtrol devices. Check for Ethernet connectors and ensure device is powered on". I opened the Port 4606 and 4607 in the Firewall document that you provided, restarted the pc, but still got the same result. Can you please advise what could be that possible setup from our company laptop that is preventing this communication from happening? I once again tried a non-company laptop and the communication with the Comtrol device gets established instantly, right after entering the MAC address of the device.

Thank you and hope you can help me with this, so that I will not be bringing along 2 laptops with me once I get to site. Thank you and more power to this very helpful and informative forum.

Hi,

I've seen some weird behavior between two "similar" computers.

In the Comtrol Driver Management Console, switch to IP Mode after entering in the IP Address of the DeviceMaster.
The default is MAC Mode and sometimes layer 2 gets blocked by something within the operating system.

The other possibility is the driver installation is corrupted.
If the above suggestion doesn't work, do the following:

1. Uninstall the driver
2. Reboot
3. Install the driver (right click and "Run as Administrator"
4. Retry configuring the General Tab in the Comtrol Driver Management Console.
